3 shots in a Texas high school shooting event

A Texas high school brawl ended in gunfire Wednesday morning, sending three people to hospital, police said. One of the victims is in critical condition.

An 18-year-old suspect has been identified and taken into custody after a police search for the person they believe was armed and dangerous. He will be charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

At least two of the four injured, one of whom did not require hospitalization, sustained gunshot wounds, police said. Three were students at Timberview High School in Arlington, Texas, they said.

Timberview High School was on lockdown as police worked to locate a person with a gun on campus, according to CBS News Dallas Ft. Worth.

The shooting began after a brawl broke out at the school and is not a random act of violence, police say.

Arlington Police informed parents that they have set up a parent reunification zone at a nearby performing arts center, saying students will be bused to the area after school secure.

Someone who said he was a high school teacher said “gunshots were fired right in the hallway of our classroom,” on social media, CBS News Dallas Ft. Worth reported, noting that the person’s identity has not been confirmed.

Timberview is part of the Mansfield Independent School District, a large district in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area made up of 49 schools serving over 35,000 students.

So far this year, there have been at least 101 incidents involving gunshots on the grounds of an American school, killing 21 and injuring 56, according to Everytown for Gun Safety https://everytownresearch.org/maps / gunfire-on-school-grounds, a gun violence prevention organization.

The group recorded at least 96 such incidents, killing 23 and injuring 43, in 2020.
